What Are The Recommended Wedge Wire Filters Used For Various Industries

Wedge wire filters are considered as one of the most dependable products when it comes to filtration and have been used in various industrial processes. Many industries depend on the filters not only due to the material grade but also with precision in filtering and longer life making them the best ROI for any industry. Below are some of the wedge wire filters used in various industrial applications.

Food and Beverage Industry

The use of wedge wire screens in the food industry varies depending on what type of food or beverage the company is manufacturing. When looking for wedge wire filters, however, there are some similar components that each industry looks for including the ability to withstand pressure, efficient extraction and filtration, non-clogging capability and easy maintenance. Slotted wedge wire screens are preferred for the food industry as the precise gap sizes allow for uniform passing of food products. Bigger products are left above the surface profile which can then be removed easily reducing clogging and efficiency in the work place.

For the beverage industry, wedge wire tube cylinders are ideal as these separate the solids from the liquid materials. The spiral design of the screen ensures that all juices are pressed out of the produce without the solids entering the filtration. Hebei UBO makes use of advanced technology to ensure the slots of welded wire screens are uniform and accurate. Customized design and measurements are also available to meet each customer’s requirements.

Slotted tubes are ideal for the industry because of its specification. Slotted tubes come in four different styles. Radial Slot Special is designed with the filtration process starting from the inside then passing outside the tube. The profiles in the widest area are welded together with the farther end of the bar for inside support. A support bar holds the bars together and adds more support.

The Radial Slot Standard on the other hand works in reversal mode. Where the Special works in an inside to outside filtration, the standard works from outside to the inside filtration process. The design is the same as the Special slot tube with the surface profile welded to the outermost part of the inside support bar. With the Axial Slot, the profiles are not welded together to produce a smooth surface, but rather with one another to form a spiral design with each profile welded to the support wire. The inside area of the tube is smooth.

Reinforced cylinders and tubes are also available and recommended especially for industries that have high levels of pressure to ensure that the screens are reinforced and stable during the production. Internal and external flow may also be applicable with the cylinder and tube.

Sewage and Waste Water Treatment

Wedge wire screens can be found easily in the sewage and waste water treatment plants. These wedge wire screens ensure that solid particles are filtered out of the liquid particles 99.99% during the first stage thus increasing efficiency in solid waste removal. Since the mesh has uniform filters, solid materials are easily removed without causing clogging. Fine flat meshes are used to filter sludge further reducing suspended solids in the treated water. Stainless steel coats are applied by some plants for wedge wire filters and increasing its life use. Fine wire mesh may also be used during the segregation process to eliminate sewage media or particles.

Sludge or solid materials that have settled at the bottom are then filtered out by passing the mixture through a cylinder tube. The tube’s slot size differs; however, the minimum is 25mm with 20micron making it easier for water to pass through yet difficult for sludge. The tube can withstand flow rate pressure and is durable with stainless steel grade, allowing it to be used frequently without the chance of corrosion. Reinforcements may be made via welding flanges or special fittings to stabilize and support the cylinder.

Refinery and Petrochemical Industry

Wedge wire filters are not only exclusive to the water treatment and food industry as many companies have discovered the benefits of using these screens in other industries as well. The Petrochemical industry especially makes use of the screens during chemical processing. The screens are not only used during mixing of chemicals, but also for media retention, de-sulfuring procedures, hydro-treating processes as well as other applications in the petrochemical industry.

Centrifugal baskets and screen support grids are commonly used as the support grid offers accurate separation of chemical particles and centrifugal baskets offer a more accurate aperture. Due to the nature of the industrial application, reinforcing mesh with abrasive coatings will guarantee that the screens withstand any exposure to the chemicals and other pharmaceutical products.

Mineral Processing Industry – Iron, Ore, Coals

The ability of the wedge wire screens to withstand pressure is what makes it ideal for many industrial processes including the mineral processing industry. During the screening process, minerals pass through aggregate screening filter screens whereby these minerals are separated from crushed stones. Minerals such as ore, limestone, granite, sandstones and other materials pass through industrial wedge wire screens reinforced in order to withstand the volume and weight pressure of the stones. Perforated metal sheets or slotted screens may be used to segregate and filter the minerals further.

Once the stones pass the flat filter screens, they will then be segregated further using centrifuge baskets. Centrifugal baskets are ideal as they can withstand high levels of vibration and rotational stress needed during the separation. The baskets are formed with fine mesh covering the inside and coarse screens on the outside. Liquid drips off and passes out of the screen while the solid material is left in the basket. To make certain that the basket can withstand the weight, flanges or supporting frames are added to the basket. Other accessories that may be added include double lined plates or turbo bars. Tailored or customized designs are also made available depending on the client’s needs and requirements.

Pulp and Paper Industry

Fine wedge wire screens on the other hand is ideal when it comes to the Pulp and Paper sector. The screen makes it easier for processes such as dewatering and retention of fibre, fiber thickening, separation of pulps and efficient waste water treatment. Pressure screens may be used to increase and improve the efficiency of separation as well as sieve bends. Sieve bends are ideal as these require minimal structural support, are quiet, need little to minimal space for installation and efficient in separation of pulps with profile screen surface of up to 50 microns. Standard designs are available and can also be customized depending on the width and arc design required by the client.

Water Well Drilling Industry

Drilled well industry makes use of drilling machines to excavate and form water wells. Drilled wells are often deeper than other types of wells and can reach a depth of several hundred meters. Water from wells often contain minerals and other surface contaminants. Screens maybe added on top of the well to prevent and keep contaminants out. At the bottom, filter screens are added to filter out contaminants such as sediments and other unwanted materials. Filter screens are readied into cylinder shapes with a diameter of 1.18’’ up to 47’’. The length of the screen may reach up to 20’’ depending on the specifications provided.

Aesthetic and Bespoke Architectural Application

Aside from the uses mentioned above, wedge wire screens are popular due to its aesthetical application. Stainless steel screens are used as floor panel grates for heat release. It may also be used as floor grates for water or flood release. Some screens may be use as architectural or building profile facades, gates, materials for balustrades and staircases, flooring grates and partitions. As it is made of stainless steel material, it is durable and corrosion resistant. Maintenance is easy with longer life expectancy due to its resistance to rust and other corrosive materials. Other alloy materials may also be used depending on the customer’s or project requirement. Screens may also be polished or anodized to add durability and increase its aesthetic appearance.
